Beach Cleanup Event in Ankara Mogan Lake!

European Union Climate Diplomacy Week ended with a beach cleanup event in Ankara Mogan Lake. The Head of the Delegation of the EU to Turkey Ambassador Christian Berger, EU Ambassadors, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality officials, students from the T.E.K primary and secondary school, Şehit Bülent Göçer Primary School and climate activists attended the global climate efforts.

Event organized under the leadership of Ambassador Berger along with the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Pavel Kafka, Ambassador of Ireland, Sonya McGuinness, Ambassador of Romania Gabriel Catalin Şopanda, Ambassador of Luxembourg, Georges Faber, Ambassador of Malta, Carmel Vassallo, Ambassador of Netherlands, Marjanne de Kwaasteniet. Also, over 100 kids and students from various schools and nature lovers attended the cleanup event. The ambassadors cleaned up the trash at the picnic area on the Lake Mogan coastline.

Dutch Ambassador Kwaasteniet said that cycling is very common in her country, which contributes to the efforts of keeping the environment clean. Kwaasteniet urged people to be more careful and aware about protecting the environment and said, “Please don’t leave your trash behind”.

Ambassador Faber emphasized the importance of protecting the environment and said, “Lake Mogan is one of the most beautiful natural beings of Ankara. We must take care of this beauty.”

“TRASH FINDS ITS WAY BACK TO US”

Ambassador Berg said that this is an important day. We underline the importance of protecting the environment. We all contribute to environmental pollution. Every year, around 400 thousand people die because of environmental impacts. Also, every year millions of plastic thrown into the seas and these find their way back to us. The EU has banned the 10 most used plastic products. Like plastic cutlery and glasses ”.
