CLOSING OF THE YEAR OF FRIENDSHIP WAS HELD AT ANITKABİR

Dutch Ambassador to Ankara Joep Wijnands visited Anıtkabir at the end of the ‘Year of Friendship’ organized for the 100th anniversary of Turkey-Dutch Friendship.

Ambassador Wijnands visited Anıtkabir with the embassy staff. Walking along the Lion’s Way with the delegation, the Ambassador laid a wreath at the mausoleum of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and observed a moment of silence. After taking a souvenir photo with the delegation, Wijnands went to the Misak-ı Milli Tower and signed the Anıtkabir Special Book.

Wijnands wrote the following in the book:

“It is my privilege to express my gratitude to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey. In 1924, under the guidance of President Atatürk and Queen Wilhelmina, a Treaty of Friendship was signed between the newly established Republic and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. In 2024, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of this treaty with various events to show the extensive friendship between Turkey and the Netherlands.”

MORE THAN 40 EVENTS

Commenting on the events and activities held on the 100th anniversary of Turkey-Netherlands Friendship, Wijnands said, “We worked very hard and together with all partners, we actually had an extraordinary year with more than 40 events. We organized events in 36 provinces in Turkey.”

FRIENDSHIP WILL CONTINUE WITH NEW GENERATIONS

Noting that this friendship will continue and develop further with new generations participating in such events, Wijnands said, “This was a very special year, but of course it will not end here. Next year we will continue with more events.  In mid-January, there will be an important visit to Turkey by the Dutch Minister of Trade and accompanying important company executives, who will meet with his counterpart and other companies to discuss further trade and investment possibilities.”
