WALES NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATED AT THE UNITED KINGDOM EMBASSY

St. David’s Day, the national day of Wales, was celebrated with a reception at the United Kingdom Embassy.

Hosted by the UK Ambassador to Türkiye, Jill Morris, the event welcomed ambassadors, foreign mission representatives, and other guests. Morris highlighted the strong and growing ties between Wales and Türkiye. She emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in trade, education, culture, and tourism. The event, she noted, played a key role in strengthening connections between both nations.

Morris also shared insights about Wales. The country has a population of 3.1 million and two official languages, Welsh and English. Its diverse economy thrives in manufacturing, renewable energy, and creative industries.

TRADITIONAL CUSTOMS

St. David’s Day is observed on March 1 every year in honor of Wales’ patron saint. Traditional customs include wearing daffodils and leeks, the national symbols of Wales and St. David. Women dress in traditional Welsh attire, while children participate in folk dances and poetry readings.

Iconic Welsh dishes also play a significant role in the celebrations. These include cawl, a traditional vegetable and meat soup, and Welsh cakes.
