MEXICO’S 214TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED

The 214th anniversary of Mexico’s independence was celebrated with a reception in Ankara. Mexican music, dances, and flavors added color to the event.

A reception hosted by Mexico’s Ambassador to Ankara, Jose Luis Martinez y Hernandez, was held at the Zübeyde Hanım Social Facilities. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayşe Berris Ekinci, Director General of Bilateral Relations with Latin America at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yaprak Balkan, Air Force Commander of the Ministry of National Defense General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, along with many ambassadors, foreign mission representatives, and guests attended the celebration.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

The reception began with the Turkish National Anthem. In the first speech of the night, Deputy Minister Ayşe Berris Ekinci highlighted that Türkiye and Mexico are home to many great civilizations and unique developments, which has led to a shared perspective on global issues. Ekinci emphasized that since 2013, the two countries, as Strategic Partners, have had significant cooperation in political, economic, cultural, and development areas. “As members of the G20 and MIKTA, our cooperation is spreading across a broad international sphere at a time when the world needs it most,” she stated. Ekinci also noted that the trade volume between the two countries reached approximately $2.5 billion in 2023, making Mexico Türkiye’s largest trade partner in Latin America and the Caribbean.

CONTRIBUTION TO INTERNATIONAL PEACE

Ambassador Hernandez remarked that Mexico and Türkiye share strong ties, saying, “According to the World Tourism Organization, we are among the top 10 most visited countries, and we are members of the G20, OECD, and MIKTA, formed by Mexico, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Türkiye, and Australia.” Hernandez stressed that both countries promote respect for international law and multilateralism, adding, “Both countries act as convergence points between different regions and support a strong commitment to international peace.”

After the speeches, a traditional flag ceremony was held. Following Ambassador Hernandez receiving the flag, the Mexican national anthem was played. The night continued with local dances from various regions of Mexico.
