Swiss National Day was celebrated with a reception hosted by Guillaume Scheurer, who recently presented his credentials to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and assumed his duties.

The reception, held at the Swiss Embassy in Ankara, was hosted by Ambassador Guillaume Scheurer and his wife Farin Scheurer. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the European Union Affairs, Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay, as well as many ambassadors, military officials, and high-level guests. During his speech at the event, Ambassador Scheurer stated that this was his first hosting duty in Türkiye, his new post, and expressed his eagerness to get to know Türkiye’’s culture, history, cuisine, and people.
THE IMPORTANCE OF PEACE AND RECONCILIATION
Describing Swiss-Turkish relations as excellent, Scheurer mentioned his goal to further develop the economic and cultural ties between the two countries. He noted that the Treaty of Lausanne contributed to bilateral relations and emphasized the importance of striving for peace and reconciliation, especially in a world where many crises and conflicts are taking place.
THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF FRIENDSHIP
Deputy Minister Bozay also remarked that Turkish-Swiss relations hold a special place in the memory of the Turkish people, pointing out that the Treaty of Lausanne, which is Türkiye’s founding treaty, was signed in Switzerland. Bozay highlighted that next year marks the 100th anniversary of the Friendship Agreement between the two countries, stating, “We continue to build on this historic foundation and deepen our bilateral relations in a wide range of areas, from economy to trade, from energy to education, from science to culture.” He also emphasized the importance of the Turkish community in Switzerland for bilateral relations, expressing his satisfaction that while contributing to the societies in which they live, these individuals maintain their ties to Türkiye.
