Former Ambassador of Turkey to Tokyo Ahmet Bülent Meriç was awarded the “Gold and Silver Star, Order of the Rising Sun” by the Emperor of Japan for his contribution to the relations between Japan and Turkey.

The order was presented to Meriç by Ambassador Katsumada Takahiko at a ceremony held at the Embassy of Japan. Some ambassadors and guests attended the ceremony. In his speech before the ceremony, Ambassador Takahiko stated that Ahmet Bülent Meriç was deemed worthy of this decoration for his contributions to the relations between the two countries and said: “Mr. Meriç has made significant contributions not only in the political and economic fields but also in the development of mutual understanding and friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries.” In his speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Ahmet Bülent Meriç said, “Japan-Turkey relations have been strengthened by the mutual assistance we have provided to each other.”
